Introduction:
Summarizing the popular requests we are receiving by email and through our contact form I’d like to answer the most common of them on the subject of essential items for the home gym in the format of a little Q&A session.
The purpose of this session is to guide the attention of fitness enthusiasts who decided to build a home gym to the first things they may be interested in.
Q1: What is considered “essential” when it comes to home gym equipment?
A: “Essential” home gym equipment refers to the fundamental and versatile items that enable you to perform a variety of exercises and achieve a well-rounded workout routine that are universal for most needs. These are the foundational pieces of equipment that you most likely will need whether your goal is strength training, getting ready for other sports or to keep an active lifestyle and healthy living overall.
Q2: What fitness equipment do I need for my home gym?
A: Building an effective home gym starts with the basics. You’ll want to invest in equipment that covers a range of exercise types to create a comprehensive workout regimen. This includes items for strength training, cardiovascular workouts, and flexibility training. Some essential equipment includes a weight bench, dumbbells, gym flooring, home gym cardio equipment.
Q3: What are the top 5 workout equipment for home gyms?
A: While it can be individual choice, from our experience as a home gym equipment supplier I would say most common top 5 workout equipment for home gyms are: weight benches, dumbbells, gym flooring, cardio equipment and barbell with plates.
Q4: Could you describe what to pay attention to while choosing gym flooring?
A: Unless a home gym is really minimalistic, with a folding bench under the bed and a pair of adjustable dumbbells, most people reasonably decide to start building their home gym with rubber flooring. There are different approaches to this task. Rubber flooring varies in thickness, material, colours and the way pieces connect – straight line or interlocking puzzle. The most “living room” style, as for me, is 6 or 8 mm speckled rubber mats, they can be either interlocking or regular and in different sizes. Heavier weights require even more thick flooring, our most popular option is 1⁄2 inch thick 4 x 6’ gym rubber mats. We don’t stop there and offer 3/4 inch mats and even thicker impact tiles for different applications, such as martial arts studios, for example.
Q5: Why is a weight bench important for a home gym?
Answer: A weight bench is an important piece of equipment for a home gym because it opens up a wide range of strength training exercises. Most popular choice is an adjustable bench. It provides a stable platform for performing exercises like bench presses, dumbbell flyes, step-ups, and more. By adjusting the angle of the bench, you can target different muscle groups and add variety to your workouts. A weight bench also enables you to perform exercises with proper form, which is crucial for preventing injuries and maximizing results.
Q6: Which dumbbells are better for a home gym?
Answer: Depending on your goals you should decide whether you prefer a pair of adjustable dumbbells or a set of dumbbells with fixed weights. Adjustable dumbbells save you space and budget, as one pair covers all your needs, since the weight of them adjust from 5 pounds and up with a twist of a dial or a turn of a handle depending on the model. For the fixed weights dumbbells the most popular option is hexagonal (hex) dumbbells. They are heavy duty, and withstand drops to the floor. To keep them organized you may want to add a dumbbell storage rack to your home gym.
Q7: You also mentioned cardio equipment, what is the best choice for a home gym?
A: Cardio equipment becomes essential in Canada in winter, since during other seasons you can go for a run to the park or ride a bike to cover your need in cardiovascular exercises. Many people prefer to have at least one option of cardio equipment at home. Our most popular items are air bikes, rowing machines and spin bikes. It is a great addition to your home gym even at the starting stage.
